Thebes

Thebes completes the holy trinity of big powerful Greek city states who hate each other (the other two being Sparta and Athens). He somehow survived the Bronze Age collapse, although he'd rather die than talk about that part of his life. One can only extrapolate from his general mannerisms and violent aversion to vulnerability.
The one person that apparently didn't apply to was Macedon, and that vulnerability would be his final mistake.
